RSP Season

Yesterday I went to the bank to discuss my RSP savings. I wanted to talk about a loan, the bank shared with me my Equifax report; they did not have my Jeep listed on the report.

They advised me to call Equifax to get my records updated.

Not having the Jeep listed affects my score. And we all know how important our “score” is.

This morning I did just that, I also decide to order my score while I was there, normally I use Transunion, (they have my Jeep on record).

I try to sign up for my score, and after a frustrating half hour I end up phoning, after waiting for over 20 minutes I was disconnected, frustrated I call back, wait another 20 minutes only to be told they cannot give me my score. Why you ask?

I only have one credit card under my name.

What?

Yes, he informs me, this is their policy, he even told me that “I was not score able”.

I tell him that is interesting, I have a score with Transunion, and how can someone be not score able?

Everyone has a score, even if the score is 200.

Yesterday at the bank I had a score.

I am sure if I went to the Brick to take advantage of their do not pay until 2025 event I would have a score.

So I ask again, let me get this right, the business’s that pays Equifax for my score get to know it, but because I only have one credit card I cannot know my own score?

“That is right Ma’am, you need to go out and get another credit card, get a major department store card he tells me, and then we can give you your score.”

I am floored. This “score” is how we are judged in today’s society. A good score entitles you to better interest rates on a loan.

A bad credit score can mean high interest rates on loans.

The credit score shows someone how desirable they are to a lender, so the higher your credit score is, the better rate you get.

When you buy a home or car, with a higher credit score you are going to get a better rate than the person that has a lower credit score, so it is extremely important to monitor and manage your score.

That is what they are always telling us, being a good citizen I buy into it.

But unless you have two credit cards Equifax is not going to give you your score. And, it seems it is company policy to even recommend you get a department store credit card.

I am not really a conspiracy believer, but … department store credit cards … are you kidding me.

I feel like someone is playing us for fools with this entire “score” concept and we are just stupid sheep.

The entire concept that a company is allowed to collect and disseminate information about me should be illegal.

When my credit relies on a company, they should share that information with me, free of charge and not be able to force me to go out and get additional credit cards to obtain information that I have a right to know.

Who governs these people, I am not ever sure where I start to complain about this, but I will find out.

I am a determined sheep.
